How to use Google AdWords Keyword Tool Properly

Adwords Keyword Tool can be a great platform to promote your site/blog or your product on websites that use Google adsense revenue generation program. It can be a little tough for those newbie users wishing to use it. But you can clear it out with this little tutorial to use adwords keyword tool.
If you are confused about “exact match”, “phrase match” or “broad match” there is not much to worry about as in the end all leads to promoting your product, but if you use it properly you can end up increasing sales significantly.

So here is how you can use adwords keyword tool properly

Lets assume you are selling iPhone 4S and you want to display your ads in related search.

Representation

  • Exact Match – The phrase or word will be surrounded by square brackets, in the format [ iPhone 4S]
  • Phrase Match – The phrase will be surrounded by quote marks, in the format “ iPhone 4S”
  • Broad Match – Any phrase or word which is entered into your AdWords keyword list without any type of formatting is a broad match, for example – iPhone 4S

tutorial to use adwords keyword tool

What is Exact Match

Exact match as the name suggests is used only when exactly the same keyword is searched by the user for which you have accepted to place your ads. Your ads will come up only and only when iPhone 4S is searched. It will not come up if the user searches “iPhone 4S store in London”. Now if you are selling iPhone 4S and want to advertise your shop you are losing potential customers.

What is Phrase Match

A Phrase Match means that they user must search for your keyword in the order that you have put them, but they can have other words either side. For example, if they searched for Where Can I Buy iPhone 4S or iPhone 4S For Sale then your advert would appear, but if they searched for iPhone review, it wouldn’t appear. Now if you have a blog about iPhone reviews again you are loosing potential customers.

What is Broad Match

A Broad Match simply means that all of your words must be in the users search term, but the order and any additional words do not matter. This means that iPhone 4S should be there in what the user searches it doesn’t matter if he searches  iPhone 4S repair or  iPhone 4S review. If again you are advertising you iPhone store these result would not benefit you.

So go and do keyword research using Google adwords keyword tool.
